What this policy covers
LangOrbit ("we", "the service") is a language-learning app delivered through a web Reader at read.langorbit.com and a Telegram Mini App. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, where it lives, and what rights you have over it.
We try to keep this document short and readable. If anything is unclear, write to us — the contact details are at the bottom.
What we collect
We collect only what the product genuinely needs to work and improve:
- Account data — email address (and a chosen display name) if you create an account, or your Telegram ID if you sign in through the bot.
- Learning data — which words you've added, your spaced-repetition state, reading progress, exercise results. This is the core data the product runs on.
- Interaction data — anonymous usage events (which pages you visited, which features you used) collected via Yandex Metrika and PostHog. Used to understand what works and what's broken.
- Technical data — IP address (kept only briefly in webserver logs), browser type, screen size. Standard webserver telemetry.
What we do not collect
We don't sell data to third parties. We don't run third-party ad networks. We don't share your learning data with advertisers or data brokers. We don't profile you outside the app.
Where your data is stored
All primary storage is on servers in Germany (Hetzner Online GmbH, Falkenstein / Nuremberg datacenters). Backups are encrypted and stored with Backblaze (EU region). Analytics is processed by Yandex (Metrika) and PostHog Cloud (EU region).
We're a small operation, so we deliberately keep the vendor list short and pick EU-resident providers wherever possible.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use essential cookies for sign-in sessions and to remember your interface preferences (language, theme). We use analytics cookies for Yandex Metrika and PostHog so we can see anonymous usage patterns. EU/UK visitors will see a consent prompt before any analytics cookies are set.
Your rights
Under GDPR and similar regulations you have the right to access the data we hold on you, to correct it, to export it in a portable format, to delete it, and to object to certain kinds of processing.
You can exercise any of these rights by writing to us at the contact email. We'll respond within 30 days, normally faster.
Age
LangOrbit is intended for users aged 16 and over. If we learn that an account belongs to a younger user, we will close it.
Changes to this policy
If we make substantive changes — what we collect, who we share it with, where it lives — we'll publish a notice in the app and update the "Last updated" date above. Minor wording fixes won't be specially flagged.
Operating entity
The data controller is the LangOrbit team — the operator of the service. For any privacy request, write to the contact email below or use the feedback form inside the app.
